Tesla Model Y Is Set To Become World's Best-Selling Vehicle, Says Musk

Elon Musk claims that the Tesla Model Y would become the world’s best-selling car by next year. That distinction currently goes to the Toyota Corolla.

Elon Musk has claimed that the Tesla Model Y is on track to become the world’s best-selling car by next year, and not just among EVs. Along with the Model 3, the Model Y is one of the two ‘affordable’ Teslas on sale. It is a compact crossover that was originally unveiled in March 2019 before entering production the following year. The Model Y is based on the Model 3 and shares most of its parts with the sedan, including its interior design and powertrain. However, it also offers optional third-row seats for a seven-passenger seating capacity.

Tesla is one of the leading electric vehicle companies in the world, having sold sold more than 936,000 cars last year. The company offers four models as part of its portfolio, including the Model S and Model X flagships apart from the more affordable Model 3 and Model Y. Until recently, the company held the number one position in the industry globally, but Chinese auto major BYD surpassed it earlier this year to become the world’s largest EV manufacturer. Tesla recently announced that it delivered more than 250,000 vehicles during the second quarter of this year as electric car sales keep soaring amid rising gas prices and increased environmental concerns.
