Blum is breathing new life into the beloved supernatural horror franchise based on the 1971 novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty. The upcoming Excorcist film serves as a direct sequel to William Friedkin’s 1973 movie. The Halloween reboot trilogy director David Gordon Green is helming the movie off a screenplay he wrote alongside Peter Sattler, Scott Teems, and Danny McBride. Blum is producing under his Blumhouse Productions banner. Universal Pictures has scheduled The Excorcist for a release in October 2023.

Currently, plot details on The Exorcist are scarce. The franchise’s demonic antagonist Pazuzu is expected to return, with rumors swirling that Jamie Lee Curtis might voice the character.
