Why The MCU Just Made Thanos So Weak (Again)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe made Thanos look incredibly weak against Ultron in What If…? episode 8, and there’s a deeper reason why.

Thanos looked incredibly weak in Marvel’s What If…?, getting defeated by Ultron in an instant, and there’s a deeper reason why. In What If…? episode 8, the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally let Ultron (voiced by Ross Marquand) loose on its heroes. After the evil AI successfully destroyed Earth, the villain sets sights on the rest of the MCU, taking up a mission to destroy the entire Multiverse. The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) battled Ultron through various worlds, but he realizes he has no chance on his own. To save the Multiverse, the Watcher breaks his oath not to interfere and brings on the help of the evil Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

The first three phases of the MCU were all about Thanos (Josh Brolin). Ever since 2012’s The Avengers, the MCU’s giant purple overlord secretly pulled strings behind the scenes. His efforts culminated in his deadly snap in Avengers: Infinity War, which eliminated half of all life, supposedly bringing balance to the universe. Though the Avengers ultimately reversed Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Endgame, the villain gave Earth’s Mightiest Heroes their first actual loss. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) even lost their lives to defeat him.
